Maria Gracia Ego-Aguirre Álvarez (1989)

Graduated from the Faculty of Art of the Universidad Católica del Perú in the Specialty of Sculpture. Currently teaching at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC) in the Faculty of Design and developing research and experimentation of natural materials in terms of a man-nature relationship and how they are related and how the natural environment manifests itself by putting in vulnerability the human being through its magnificence and the little control we have over it.

The subject of my artistic work focuses on the territory taken as a body that lives and feels like us, the human beings, which actively manifests and transforms through its mutations and manifestations. A body that keeps an intrinsic relationship with the human being because it is the space that inhabits and contemplates but also the place that struggles and tries to control.

In my artistic work, I seek to show the territory as a series of spaces/bodies that show the power and immensity which can shake us and make us vulnerable through a series of manifestations that lead us to remember that this subsoil is made present many times without permission. This surface that is continuously underneath us, wherefrom this relationship with the human being, this sort of broken, open, fragmented, isolated, desolate, decontextualized bodies that emerge and show us that unique potential in we are contains. It is in the meeting of this series of fictions that these new bodies are found that do not dispense with a specific size or order, giving it an infinite possibility that shows the continuity of its surface and texture.

I try to show hidden evidence, which questions me, not only about the vastness of the territorial extension but also how fragile and little I am. A new view at the space around us, that lives and feels and makes us continually vulnerable.
